Welcome To Our New ED!

Dear Friends & Supporters,

The Board of Directors of Sakhi for South Asian Women wants to share some very exciting news with you. After a successful search process, we are very pleased to announce that we have hired Ms. Shalini Somayaji to lead Sakhi as its next Executive Director! As a Board, we strongly believe in Shalini’s leadership and vision for Sakhi, and are looking forward to partnering with her in this new chapter.

Shalini has been serving in the role of Interim Executive Director since February and has been with Sakhi as the Deputy Director since 2011. She first started working around gender-based violence issues in 2000 during a summer fellowship at Raksha, an Atlanta-based nonprofit that works within the South Asian community. There, her passion for social justice was sparked, and she continued on after law school at Tapestri, a nonprofit dedicated to ending violence in refugee and immigrant communities, for over six years, first as a legal advocate and then as Co-Executive Director. Shalini is a graduate of Tufts University and Emory University School of Law. She is currently on the Steering Committee of Asian Women Giving Circle.
The Board of Directors is committed to supporting Shalini in this new role and will work closely with her to ensure that Sakhi continues to drive its mission. We would like to thank all who have helped during the Executive Director Search Process and look forward to engaging you in other ways.

Thank you for supporting Sakhi and we look forward to connecting soon.

Regards,

Manisha Mehrotra
