A huge thanks to all of you who came out to our July 25th event, “Gender Justice + the Arts” at Bowery Poetry Club! Despite the pouring rain, more than 100 of you came out to participate in a conversation about gender-based violence, South Asian identity and feminism, and building communities of care and solidarity. Performers Benaifer Bhada, Mashuq Deen, and Alok Vaid-Menon shared incredible stories and poetry about body image, transphobia, navigating relationships with family, queer identity, harassment, love, and loss. Artists Amina Ahmed, Soni Satpathy-Singh, and Ayqa Khan shared thoughts and experiences on being South Asian women in the arts, who and what inspires them, the challenges they face, and how art can be used as a tool for social justice. Thank you so much for participating in this inspiring evening with us, and stay updated for more events of this kind in the future!
