In solidarity with the LGBTQ community, Women for Afghan Women (WAW), SALGA-NYC(South Asian Lesbian and Gay Association), Sakhi for South Asian Women, and Dar al-Taqwa Islamic Center (Flushing, NY) have joined forces in convening a public forum and town hall meeting to discuss the heinous mass shooting that took place at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida.
Through a broad spectrum of voices, we aim to address the homophobia that inflicts communities where religious beliefs, patriarchy, and conservatism have led to intolerance; the ramifications and backlash that will inevitably follow this hate crime; and the issues surrounding rampant domestic violence and gun violence in the United States.
