Sakhi's Leading Supporters
Sakhi’s board, staff, volunteers, and survivors would like to thank our major donors for 2009. You investment was essential in sustaining services for survivors of domestic violence as well as our programs to mobilize community and institutional responses to end violence.
In 2009, among other achievements, we
- Celebrated Sakhi’s 20th Anniversary with a gala which brought together two decades of Sakhi supporters to commemorate the numerous accomplishments made as a result of their commitment and dedication;
- Secured funding from the Ford Foundation to further our ground-breaking court interpreter project which enhances language access in the court system to survivors of intimate partner violence.
- Collected a record number of Swarna grant applications, a 59% increase from 2008, from survivors of abuse; we continue to assist survivors in achieving financial independence by awarding grants for higher education;
- Received world-wide recognition across 100 countries, at the Sony South Asian Excellence Awards held May 9, 2009;
- Presented our expertise at conferences, colleges, community engagements and other venues over 35 times;
- Sustained a multifaceted volunteer program with 94 active volunteers who donated a record breaking 2 years and 10 months of time - a 45% increase from 2008.
Without your commitment and vital support we would not have been able to achieve such a successful year! For information on our program activities and outcomes, go to http://www.sakhi.org/learn/Archives.php. Thank you for supporting safe homes and a stronger community.
