Sakhi's 20th Anniversary Celebration!

Mission

Sakhi for South Asian Women exists to end violence against women. We unite survivors, communities, and institutions to eradicate domestic violence as we work together to create strong and healthy communities. Sakhi uses an integrated approach that combines support and empowerment through service delivery, community engagement, media advocacy, and policy initiatives.

Why Support Now?

Sakhi has seen a dramatic tripling in community demand for our services in the past 7 years: in 2001, Sakhi responded to 201 new requests for assistance; in 2008, we fielded a record 731 new pleas. In the first half of 2009, Sakhi has already responded to 403 new requests and conducted 39 presentations. Your support now sustains our everyday impact and emboldens our cutting-edge programs.

Sakhi is excited to celebrate its 20th anniversary with gusto and style on Oct. 2, 2009 at the Prince George Ballroom. Talented filmmaker and long-time Sakhi supporter Mira Nair will serve as the evening's honored guest speaker. In addition, the evening will include a powerful Sakhi program, a special appearance by Reshma Shetty of Royal Pains, delectable food by Devi, a live auction with a Sotheby's auctioneer, and incredible music by DJ Rekha!
